Francis Baek
PhD Student
Francis Baek is a PhD student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Arizona, and a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Intelligent Systems, Robotics, and Control) from the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on using vision- and wearable-based technologies to contribute to safe and efficient construction.
Leyang Patrick Wen
PhD Student
Leyang Wen is a Ph.D. student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering & Management at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research mainly focuses on vision-based equipment monitoring & utilization of distributed ledger technology in construction. In his spare time, he enjoys snowboarding and rock climbing.
John Jiu Sohn

John Sohn is a PhD student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Yonsei University, South Korea. He has a grand goal to continuously develop pioneering solutions to improve productivity at the construction site and create a better environment for disadvantaged people. His current research focus is on deep learning-based data analysis and wearable devices application.
Gunwoo Yong

Gunwoo Yong is a PhD student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Architectural Engineering from Yonsei University, South Korea. He has deeply studied AI applications in the construction industry including, but not limited to defection detection. He also worked for HanmiGlobal Saudi Arabia as an IT specialist.

Minseo Park is a PhD student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Computer Science and a master’s degree in Smart Cities from Chung-Ang University, Korea. His research focuses on advancing infrastructure performance through data-driven methods and more efficient project financing via the adoption of blockchain and smart contracts.
